The Vision Behind Parkside Hub
Parkside Hub was born from the vision of the Parkside Athletic Football Club committee. For years, players, supporters, and families have endured poor changing rooms, inadequate toilets, and limited facilities. It is clear that something better is needed—a welcoming space where the local community could come together to enjoy sports and social activities.
Bringing the Plan to Life
In May 2021, we took the first step by submitting our initial concept designs for outline planning permission. To turn this vision into reality, we established Parkside Hub CIC, a Community Interest Company dedicated to leading the project. Our goal is to secure a lease from Peterborough City Council, not just for the new clubhouse but also for the playing fields. By doing so, we aim to protect and preserve this space for generations to come, ensuring the Ortons community continues to enjoy sport, open grasslands, and nature.
A Hub for Sport, Community, and Sustainability
Parkside Hub CIC is run by passionate volunteers who believe in creating a space that benefits everyone. Beyond improved sports facilities, we want to establish a Community Centre where local groups can meet, social events can take place, and opportunities for learning and recreation can thrive. Sustainability is a priority, and we are committed to making the building as close to ‘net zero’ as possible, minimizing our environmental impact.
Working Together with Local Partners
Collaboration is key to making this dream a reality. We are proud to be working alongside Anglia Ruskin University, Roythornes Solicitors, and PDG Architects, among other local businesses and organisations. Wherever possible, we aim to partner with local firms to ensure that this project is truly rooted in the community.
Funding the Future
To bring Parkside Hub to life, we need to raise £500,000. We are actively seeking funding from organizations such as the Football Foundation, Sport England, ECCB, LTA, as well as national and local businesses, council grants, the National Lottery, and the support of local people. Every contribution, big or small, will help us create a lasting legacy for sport and community activities in the Ortons.
What’s Next?
We are currently working with Peterborough City Council to refine our plans. The updated designs will include rebuilding the existing changing rooms and creating a flexible indoor space for a variety of community activities. We’re excited to take the next steps and move closer to making Parkside Hub a reality.
If you would like to help with this exciting project, please contact one of the Directors of the Parkside Hub CIC using the “contact us” form.
